Kate Winslet’s new lover Ned RockNRoll is finally getting a divorce

Here are some photos of Kate Winslet and her relatively new piece, Ned RockNRoll. That’s seriously his legal name – he changed it a few years ago. Ned now travels everywhere with his lover, Kate. They were loved up in London, and she brought him with her to Shanghai, and these are photos of Kate and Ned arriving in San Francisco. They’re all hand-holdy and love-gazey. Ugh. Ned is Richard Branson’s nephew, and the situation around his “single” status is slightly complicated – it was widely reported that he was married when he and Kate first got together, more than a month ago. The marriage thing is weird, though – when he and Kate first got together, he was “separated” from his heiress wife Eliza, but his wife wanted him back and she wanted to work on their marriage. They had only been married for two years or so too – and Ned JUST filed for divorce, according to his wife. Eliza Pearson told The Telegraph: “The decree absolute should come through soon, maybe this month.” Here’s more:

Eliza Pearson and Ned separated after just 20 months. Winslet’s friends say she did not begin her relationship with Ned, 33, who works for his uncle’s space venture Virgin Galactic, until after his decree nisi was granted on August 10.

“Kate would never become involved with a married man,” says one of her chums. “Ned’s wife left him and he was very upset. Kate didn’t get to know him until the decree nisi had gone through.”

Pearson, 23, does not dispute this version of events. “I broke up with Ned,” she tells me. “I won’t disclose the reason, but the split was very amicable. We’re still the best of friends. I’m not seeing anyone else.”

The heiress, whose family’s wealth is estimated to be more than £1 billion, declines to comment on his relationship with Winslet. Last Sunday, I reported that Rocknroll had bought a vintage love locket for the 36-year-old star of Titanic that cost thousands of pounds.

“They are very serious about each other,” says another of Winslet’s friends. The couple have, however, tried to avoid being photographed together.

Confusingly, Pearson declared in July: “I’ve changed my mind about divorce. I am hoping this will turn out to be more of a break than a total separation, because the longer we are apart the more it’s making me realise how much I miss him.”

She added: “It went wrong, but it’s not as if it was a shotgun wedding – we’d been together for four years. I have never stopped loving him and we are soulmates – that doesn’t come along very often.”

Really, Kate? This is the best you can do? Granted, I think this guy might have some hidden talents – he pulled a billionaire heiress and now one of the most famous actresses in the world, and he doesn’t seem to have any job – or maybe he has the kind of career where he can just follow his ladies around. What‘s that job? Boy-toy to an Oscar winning sugar mama? Seriously, what does he do? I have no idea. Oh, well. Whatever makes her happy. I get the feeling Kate is still wanting easy, uncomplicated relationships, but this guy is making my Sketchy Radar ping.

Chris Martin talks about his marriage to Gwyneth: “It’s like winning the lottery”

Much has been written about the state of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin’s marriage. According to widely circulated tabloid reports, Goop and Chris have been various stages of “over it” for years, for various reasons that may or may not involve sex with groupies and Kate Bosworth. I think most people look at Chris and Gwyneth’s marriage and ask, “Damn, how can HE put up with HER?” Yes, Goop is insufferable. But in her defense, I really think Chris is insufferable too. I’ve begun to think they just deserve each other.

Anyway, Chris has a new interview with CBS Sunday Morning. He actually comes across as rather sweet here, and he deigns to speak in warm terms of his wife. I think it’s a little weird that at this point, neither Gwyneth nor Chris have problems talking about each other and their marriage in print or television interviews, but somehow walking together, hand-in-hand, is the most EPIC HORRIBLE thing ever. I still don’t get that. So, in the interview Chris once again discusses how Gwyneth was his first girlfriend (he’s talked about that before):

Chris Martin isn’t about to take Gwyneth Paltrow for granted. The 34-year-old feels really lucky to be married to the GOOP Goddess, and not just because she’s the only serious romance he’s ever had.

In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Anthony Mason asked Martin if it was true that he’d only had “one serious relationship.”

“[That's] right,” the Coldplay frontman said. “I’m in it.”

When Mason pointed out that Martin’s lack of serious girlfriends in the past was “pretty unusual” and told him he’d made “quite a leap,” the musician quipped: “It’s a big leap? What, from being a loser, to going out with an Oscar winner?”

He laughingly continued: “It’s a giant leap. Let’s face it: it’s like winning the lottery.”

Martin and Paltrow, who said “I do” in 2003, are parents to Moses, 5, and Apple, 7.

So how has being a father changed Martin’s professional life? “It’s made it more focused,” he said. “And you have a purpose. I like what it does. Just the idea of having to work hard so your kids are okay.”

Is Chris just doing the self-deprecating English thing, or does he still see himself as a loser? I tend to think the same thing of Chris that I think of Kristen Stewart – it takes a lot of effort to be that anti-celebrity, anti-famewhore. Where was I going with that? I don’t even remember. Something about how it takes a lot more time and effort to avoid ever being in the same photo frame as his wife, and if he really didn’t want any public association with her, he shouldn’t even talk about her in interviews. So why does he? He’s very conscious of her celebrity and his own celebrity. He cares too much. As Goop said in a recent interview, “He makes music for his fans, and he doesn’t want people to conjure a lame famous couple when they’re getting into his music. I get it.” Or maybe Chris is just still comparing himself to Brad Pitt, which he’s admitted in the past.

Christina Aguilera takes her son & her boy-toy to the pumpkin patch

Following last weekend’s rather rough showing at the Michael Jackson tribute concert in Wales, Christina Aguilera and her boy-toy Matt Rutler are back stateside, in LA, where they headed out to the pumpkin patch with Christina‘s son Max. I always dislike this time of year in Celebrity-ville, just because every famewhore with a kid somehow ends up at the one paparazzi-friendly pumpkin patch in LA, where they pose in a series of “Look at me, I’m a great parent!” situations. Now, many of them might be great parents. And yes, this is the one pumpkin patch that includes “extras” for the kids, like a slide and maybe some face-paint stations. Still! Grumble, grumble. I know, I know, I’m a curmudgeon about these things. I should just let go and think, “Hey, celebrities at the pumpkin patch, with their cute kids!” But I end up thinking, “Is this really the ONLY pumpkin patch in LA? Seriously?”

As you can see, Christina is following the Kirstie Alley School of Style. Whenever Kristie gains weight, it’s all spandex and layers, always an odd mix. I have a theory, though. Remember how Kirstie used to claim she was a “stretchy size 6” when she was obviously, like, a size 18? I think Christina does the same thing – as that random nutritionist said the other day, Christina is likely “unaware” of her weight gain, and the spandex pants probably help that delusion. And before you start yelling at me – look, as I said before, if I thought Christina just gained a few pounds because she liked food, no one would care. But she looks unhealthy, and my un-medical opinion is that her significant weight gain is from her heavy, extreme boozing. She’s not a healthy girl, emotionally or physically. Sorry to get all concern-troll-y. But she bugs, and she has a crappy personality anyway, so who cares? Oh, and Matt Rutler is looking kind of rough too, right?

Beyonce shows off her bump full of pillowy mystery in NYC

Here are some newish photos of Beyonce and her “bump” in NYC a few days ago – she made sure everybody got photos of her huge bump (in heels) after the fake-bump debacle. What can we glean from these photos? As I’ve said before, I think Beyonce is really pregnant. There’s a baby in there, somewhere, underneath the padding. I think you can tell she’s pregnant from her boobs (which look much fuller) and her face, which seems only slightly fuller. What I keep saying, however, is that the bumps don’t match up with the timeline, and they don’t match from day to day. I’m pretty sure this is the same collapsible pillow that we saw in the now-infamous video. I want to show it again!

Same size. As for the rationale behind the padding… I still think it’s just for famewhoring. Because she jumped the gun and debuted her bump at the VMAs before she was really showing, and now she just loves the attention her various-sized pillows bring. I mean, this is the most we’ve talked about her in a while.

Oh, and you know she’s designing a maternity line now, right? She’ll do it for House of Dereon – at least that‘s what she said in Harper‘s Bazaar: “All I see now are clothes that are flattering on a pregnant woman. It’s been so exciting for me! I love figuring out designs that still make me feel edgy and sexy while pregnant. Flowy fabrics are always flattering. But I still rock my stilettos.” See, I do think she’s so excited to be pregnant, she jumped the gun a little bit with her bump debut. But that still doesn’t excuse all of the lies and BS.

Robert Downey Jr.: “You should forgive Mel Gibson and let him work”

Some celebrities use their American Cinematheque Award celebration to highlight some cause that they’re involved with – like Matt Damon. When Matt was recognized with the lifetime achievement award, he used the moment to highlight his work in Africa. Other celebrities use the award ceremony as just a fun night with friends. And then there’s Robert Downey Jr., who used his night to highlight his special cause: being friends with Mel Gibson. Mel was at RDJ’s American Cinematheque ceremony – not only that, but Mel posed with RDJ, they buddied up for the cameras, and RDJ passionately defended Mel in his speech.

Now, before this, RDJ has shown public signs of his support of Mel. He “refused to criticize” Mel (and Charlie Sheen), basically claiming that he (RDJ) has a very sketchy past, and he’s not going to judge other dudes for their sketchiness. It wasn’t a passionate defense, and for the most part, Robert has avoided the kind of gross-by-association taint that Jodie Foster has gotten with her relationship to Mel. I talked about the difference in the situations previously. But now something has changed – RDJ just put his reputation, his backing, his support fully behind the dude who will demand a beej before he kills you and buries you in the garden.

Mel Gibson has a real friend in Robert Downey Jr. Friday night Downey, 46, accepted an American Cinematheque Award in Beverly Hills, and the actor used his time on stage to ask Hollywood to forgive Gibson, 55.

“Unless you are without sin — and if you are, you are in the wrong f**king industry — you should forgive him and let him work,” the Iron Man star said.

Downey, who famously struggled with substance abuse himself in the past, costarred with Gibson in the 1990 film Air America. “He taught me many things, and I will use the ‘C’ word — courage,” Downey said. “There’s nothing so much wrong with him. Of course you have to worry about the guy making the judgment here. He’s a good dude with a good heart.

Gibson has been open about his battle with alcoholism; throughout the years he has been repeatedly taped making offensive, anti-Semitic remarks, including a drunken rant during a 2006 arrest in Malibu. In March, he pled no contest for one misdemeanor count of spousal battery, related to a Jan. 6, 2010 incident with his ex Oksana Grigorieva. During the pair’s custody case for their 23-month-old daughter Lucia, Gibson admitted, “I slapped Oksana with an open hand in an attempt to bring her back to reality.”

But Downey, who is proudly clean and sober today, isn’t about to judge Gibson. “Mel and I have the same lawyer, same publicist, and same shrink. I couldn’t get hired and he cast me,” Downey said. “He said if I accepted responsibility — he called it hugging the cactus — long enough, my life would take meaning. And if he helped me, I would help the next guy. But it was not reasonable to expect the next guy would be him.”

I have such mixed feelings. Ugh. On one side, I know that Robert truly feels beholden to Mel, and like there’s a debt that Robert still needs to repay. I think RDJ found his decency in sobriety, and he believes that people can change, can become better and whole, and that everyone derives a second chance. Those are noble things to believe in, and it makes him a good person, worthy of admiration and emulation. On the other side… Robert just stood up for a dude who fist beat the crap out of his girlfriend (and her son), then stalked, harassed and threatened the girlfriend when she dared to leave him. That sucks, for lack of a better word.

Zachary Quinto confirms his homosexuality to NY Mag

Zachary Quinto is gay. That’s basically all I have to say, really. It’s not particularly shocking – it’s been widely known amongst people who pay even a passing interesting in gossip about Quinto. But, he’s never confirmed or denied anything about his sexuality until this interview with New York Magazine’s Vulture column. Quinto was discussing his eight-months-long job on the Broadway play Angels in America (but the interview is promotion for Margin Call).

Vulture: You lived here when you did the play Angels in America, right?
Quinto: I was here for a year. We did Margin Call, I wrapped Margin Call, I started rehearsals for Angels in America two days later. It was incredible. It was the most challenging thing I’ve ever done as an actor. And the most rewarding, hands-down. I had not been on stage in six years and so for me to do my first play in New York and to have it be this epic masterwork that, you know, went right to the heart of so many matters that were and still are circulating both in society and in my life personally, it was an enormously rewarding and terrifying journey for sure.

Vulture: What was terrifying?
Quinto: Just the sheer scale of the play to begin with. And then I just think revisiting that work and revisiting the themes of that work at a time when the political and social climate of the country is shifting so dramatically and so irreversibly, to really come up against the echoes of that hatred and that bigotry and that fear that still exists in our culture, just in a different context now — you know, I feel it was just a really interesting exploration for me.

Doing that play made me realize how fortunate I am to have been born when I was born. And to not have to witness the decimation of an entire generation of amazingly talented and otherwise vital men. And at the same time, as a gay man, it made me feel like I — there’s still so much work to be done. There’s still so many things that need to be looked at and addressed. The undercurrent of that fear and that, you know, insidiousness still is swarming. It’s still all around us. To revisit that world at all, it took a toll on me. It definitely was an incredible experience but it was really daunting at times.

I think that’s one of the better ways for an actor to announce to the world that he or she is gay. Just drop it in an interview like it’s nothing. I should note one minor little thing – it’s interesting that Quinto gave the confirmation to New York Magazine, because last year that was the same media outlet that tried unsuccessfully to interview him, and Quinto whipped out his bitch over a question about ice cream. Maybe this was his way of making friends with a media outlet that he mistreated.

As far as his sexuality – I’m glad that he’s out of the closet now, and something tells me that ladies are still going to adore him. When we were doing HGFs, he always got a lot of requests from you Trekkie bitches.

Linnocent: “Please ignore the reports which have no truth to them”

Let’s recap the current Linnocent situation: she’s a cracked-out mess. That about sums it up, right? Oh, you want details! She’s probably an international call girl, she gets paid a lot of money to “model” for budget clothes, she blows off whatever court-ordered obligations she has, she was actively non-compliant with her community service and didn’t even bother trying to get court-ordered therapy (where she surely would have been diagnosed with a massive personality disorder, like narcissistic personality disorder), and absolutely NONE of that is her fault because people are mean to her and everyone is trying to get famous off of her good name and SHUTUP. *throws drink at your face*

So, here’s the latest. First, Linnocent tweeted this “explanation” or crack denial or whatever you want to call it:

I am not to be made an example of anymore. I am working hard and fulfilling my obligations every single day, to the court as well as myself. If I travel, its for work and its been approved. As is anything I do when I leave the state. I’d appreciate it if people will just let me do what is asked of me, so that I can get my life back. Please ignore the reports which have no truth to them. Whatever, blah blah. This is her M.O. First, there are reports of crack shenanigans, then Lindsay denies it, then someone comes forward with further evidence, and then she shuts up and lets Dawn Holley do the talking and then the California legal system throws their hands up in the arm like they just don’t care. Why break the cycle now?

Let’s do the rest in bullet points:

*TMZ reports that Linnocent has been “going to therapy” if the definition of “going to therapy” means “calling some poor therapist bastard in the middle of the night when she’s all high and junk.” Yes, Linnocent claims that while she was “working” in Europe, she got approval from both her probation officer and her therapist, and she did two therapy sessions over the phone, both for longer than 45 minutes. I would LOVE to read those transcripts. I hope the court makes them public.

*TMZ’s report also notes that Linnocent “strongly believes the probation department is out to get her … and desperately wants to make an example out of her” and that she “can’t wait” to go to court to tell “her side of the story.” For real.

*TMZ also caught up with Mother Crackhead, in case you couldn’t tell from the previous stories. Dina tells TMZ that Lindsay is “great, wonderful and really on it” as far as her community service is going.

*And in our (hopefully) last story, Page Six reports that Linnocent stills absolutely HATES Pitbull – she’s suing him for (LMAO) defamation, remember? Because of his lyric, “I got it locked up like Lindsay Lohan.” Linnocent still has such a hate-on for Pitbull that she requires all of the clubs she “frequents” to NOT play Pitbull while she’s in the club. A source told Page Six, “Club staff were told that if any Pitbull song comes on, Lindsay would leave — [it’s] hard since he’s on so many hit songs right now. They briefed the DJ, actress Taryn Manning, that she could not play any Pitbull songs for the time Lindsay was at the event.” Linnocent’s crackie rep Steve Honig even confirmed this story, saying: “I told THQ that I would appreciate it if they did not play any Pitbull at the club. Lindsay was not aware of it, and she didn’t have anything to do with it. Even now she has no idea I did that. If they did play Pitbull, there was no chance she would have walked out.” I dare someone to play Pitbull around her. Wait, no. Don’t do it. She’ll beat you with a liquor bottle.

Oh, and Lindsay’s court date is for Wednesday, not Monday as I previously thought. Mark your crack calendars! If she’s found in violation of her probation, she could be looking at up to 18 months in jail. *rolls eyes* That won’t happen.

Jennifer Aniston says she can do more than “that rom-com girl-next-door thing”

Last week, we covered the first excerpts from Jennifer Aniston’s Elle Magazine cover profile. It wasn’t a traditional cover story, though – Aniston was chosen as the cover girl for the “Women In Hollywood” issue, which… I disagree with. I disagree with using Aniston as the de facto poster girl for a successful women in Hollywood. It’s not that she’s NOT successful in a financial sense (she is), and she’s definitely one of the few women who producers consider “able to open” (although she has difficulties opening without a strong male lead). But in a magazine issue where you’re trying to celebrate the achievements of interesting, diverse, talented ladies, I just think there are much better potential cover girls to choose from. Think of the ladies who have turned in stunning, award-winning work this year. Kate Winslet. Mia Wasikowska. Viola Davis. Evan Rachel Wood. Claire Danes. But I digress…

So, Aniston and the excerpts. Everyone paid attention to her comments on babies – “There’s no desperation. If it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be. I’m at peace with whatever the plan is. But will you hate me if I say I don’t want to talk about my relationship?” But there are more gems in the print interview:

On the Horrible Bosses script and typecasting: “My jaw dropped. I thought ‘Wow. What took so long?’ I’ve been categorized as that rom-com girl-next-door thing. But we’re actors. If given the chance, we can pull some other stuff off.”

On the tabloids: “I remember being on the cover of Us Weekly – willingly! Not with my head stuck next to somebody else’s going, Jen Versus so-and-so! Rage! Scandal! Bullsh-t!”

Advice to her younger self: “Stop taking everything so seriously. Stop being so sensitive. [That changed for me] probably about six, seven years ago. It’s the moment you come from the ashes and go, This is nothing.”

On The Break-up: “It was summer in Chicago – happy, happy times. I look at this picture and think of marriage. How many times have you been in a relationship when nobody is budging?”

On her most surreal Hollywood moment: “I’ve had many. I’ve been lucky. But I would have to say it was meeting Sophia Loren backstage at the Oscars. That was a pretty good one. I was like Cindy Brady in that Brad Bunch episode where she was on the game show and she just stared at that red light.”

Was there a role she fought for but didn’t win? “I’ve lost all the battles that I fought for.”

Did she have regrets when she saw someone else in the role? “No, I sat there and went, ‘That actually was better that way.’”

On a time when she stood up to a male director: “I threw a chair at a director. It wasn’t my proudest moment. He was treating a script supervisor horribly… When the director walked in, I threw a chair at him. I missed, of course. I was like, ‘You can’t speak to people like that.’ I can’t tolerate it.”

I found her comments about Horrible Bosses interesting – “I’ve been categorized as that rom-com girl-next-door thing. But we’re actors. If given the chance, we can pull some other stuff off.” That’s always the hit against Aniston, that she rarely breaks out of the rom-com mold. On this, I’ll defend her slightly: Audiences tend to actively dislike films where she tries to do something different. Remember that one she did with Clive Owen, where she was, like, the femme fatale? Hardly anyone bought it. But Horrible Bosses did okay, and maybe she’ll be doing more of that.

Oh, by the way – she’s not pregnant. Us Weekly had a story yesterday about Aniston and Theroux partying with the SNL cast over the weekend, and they said that Jennifer was drinking Grey Goose. So… she’s still getting her drink on, and there’s no BABY. You can read the piece here – there’s a mention of how “cute” she and Justin are together, and how he’s a “complete gentleman”. Because those are the new keywords that her publicist drops into every report these days.

Johnny Depp at ‘The Rum Diary’ premiere: still douchey or still hot?

These are photos from last night’s LA premiere of The Rum Diary. Johnny looks pretty nice here, I think. I like his hair this length, and I like that he put on a suit and actually tried. The Rum Diary is a passion project for Depp – that much I got from his VF interview.

Speaking of, I know a lot of you are over Johnny Depp these days, what with his support of Roman Polanski, and then his douchey, out-of-touch, and offensive comments in Vanity Fair about how photo shoots equal rape. Well, I read the whole interview, and while Johnny totally said those things and he was completely right in apologizing for it, I also think that he wasn’t being interviewed by the best person. The dude interviewing him was an old friend and godfather to his son. And the whole interview was rather lacking as far as “Johnny being an interesting person.” It’s been explained to me time and time again why he’s so interesting and cool, but time and time again, he fails to reveal that side of himself in interviews, and part of the problem is that Johnny rarely gets interviewed by anyone other than his sycophantic friends. Whenever he was asked about anything more than superficial, Johnny muttered “I dunno” or “I don’t care.” It was tedious.

I’m also including photos of Johnny’s female costar, Amber Heard. I think Amber is really pretty on her own, but in these photos she’s giving me Scarlett Johansson vibes. Right? The dress is Elie Saab, and it’s very pretty – nay, stunning – on her. My only quibble is with her hair – it’s too blonde, and there should be some roots or low-lights, because these extreme blonde is washing her out.

Taylor Swift donates 6,000 books to a Pennsylvania library

These are some new photos of Taylor Swift launching her new perfume at Macy’s NYC. The perfume is called “Wonderstruck” and I’m sure it smells like a mixture of coffee after apple-picking, the sweat of glitter-ponies and the damp skin after a good cuddlefesting session. No, I won’t make fun! That was too harsh, especially because Swifty just did something really awesome – she donated 6000 books to the Reading, Pennsylvania public libraries. I mean… come on, that’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever heard. That’s not just writing a check or showing up at some dinner (although both of those things are great) – Swifty actually did her research and gave a thoughtful donation through Scholastic Books:

Eleven-year-old Emily Rankin has looked up to Taylor Swift as long as she can remember, back to the days when the country music superstar was performing at local fairs. But now Rankin thinks even more of the Wyomissing native, thanks to her big donation to the Reading Public Library.

Swift donated 6,000 books to the library, which has divided them equally among its main, northeast, northwest and southeast branches.

The books are worth $ 68,000, and will be available for patrons to borrow beginning Saturday. In six months, the books will be available for inter-library loans throughout Berks County.

Rankin of Shillington was in the children’s department of the main branch in downtown Reading when the books there were unveiled Thursday, picking out a few novels she plans to read.

“I think it’s amazing she did this for her community,” Rankin said of Swift.

Library officials agree.

They learned of the donation in March during a call from Scholastic Books. They picked the books they wanted from the publisher: five copies each of 500 titles. Two copies of each title will be placed on the shelves, two others will be given as prizes and incentives for young patrons and the fifth will be kept in reserve.

The books include fiction and nonfiction for children and teens, and picture books for younger patrons, among others.

Not only will they give youngsters more books to choose from, but with Swift’s popularity, they will motivate more children and teens to read, said Bronwen Gamble, library assistant director.

The library placed a white star on the spine of the donated books to recognize Swift’s star status, and also placed a sticker inside recognizing that she purchased them.

“She adds the coolness factor to reading,” Gamble said.

Library Director Frank Kasprowicz said the donation is the largest made to the library in recent years.

Swift is on tour and did not attend the unveiling.

Her representatives told Reading library officials that she decided to help three U.S. libraries that were struggling to remain open, and picked Reading as one of them.

Kasprowicz hopes the gift motivates the community to increase its donations to the library, which has suffered from state and city funding cuts in recent years, and in 2009 almost had to close all but its main branch.

“We need this same kind of support and generosity from people and organizations closer to home,” he said. “We hope that our patrons and other members of Reading and Berks County will follow her lead and take up our cause.”

I really can’t even describe how awesome I think this is, and the librarian is right, it does encourage kids to read. I’ve always been a reader – my parents were both huge readers growing up, and so I learned it from watching them. Not all kids have parents who read for pleasure, though, and I worry about the younger generations with their text-speak and their lack of concentration. It’s nice that Taylor is out there, representing and promoting books and libraries and reading. So… I’m giving her a pass for a month. Swifty, if you want to start boning John Mayer again, here’s your chance! I won’t yell at you. Have at it.
